My Mission.

Trans-Fitness C.I.C. has 3 main aims:
1. To list ANYTHING Trans/NB exclusive or Trans/NB friendly  -  be it sport, social or support activities where people can go who will be in a safe environment to achieve their goals, OR anything that will help Trans and non-binary people live safer lives.
2. Where possible to either help get activities off the ground in areas where there is not currently much going on, (and to help support these in the early stages whilst they are being set up), or to provide periodic activities if required until something permanent can be found.
3. To provide workshops and seminars to help Trans/NB people become the amazing people that they are.  Examples can include (but not confined to): Preparing for medical transition/surgery; Eating healthily for an active life; Goal-setting.

I would like to be able to list all of the sporting clubs in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland that are LGBT-friendly - particularly those that are Trans-friendly, and especially those that already have Trans members amongst their membership.

If you know of any club that can be added to the list, where people will be welcome and encouraged to participate, then please e-mail me at trans-fit@hotmail.com and I will add them to the list.

Likewise, if you know of any sporting facility that is offering taster sessions, or introductory sessions at affordable prices, then please get in touch so that I can list these for people to be able to get involved and see if a sport is right for them.

FAQ

I've not done any exercise for a long time but would like to start. What should I do first?

The first thing to do, would be to go and see your GP, and get a quick check-up to make sure that there are no health issues that could get in the way.  Tell the GP that you wish to start undertaking some exercise, and they will be able to advise you on whether you have any medical issues that may restrict you in the first few weeks.

If there are any issues then the GP can tell you what they are, which you can pass on to whomever is running the activity that you are starting (if applicable), and the fitness professional can keep an eye on you and advise you accordingly on activity that you can do and if there are any exercises that need to be modified for you initially.

Any activity is always undertaken at your own risk - whether healthy or not.  If you should feel ill, short of breath, or have any pain or discomfort during exercise, then always seek medical advice before continuing.

Will I need any specialist equipment or clothing to take part?

Some of the sporting activities might require you to have specialist equipment, and we will try and make it clear here if you do need to have some items yourself, or if the club will provide items initially whilst you decide if the activity is for you.

If unsure, contact details for all of the sporting clubs and activities are provided here so that you can get in touch with whichever club/activity interests you and discuss your circumstances privately with the group leader prior to attending.

I'm new to fitness. What will be expected of me if I go to join an activity or club?

Most clubs will have a session set aside for beginners, and they will usually be able to inform you of when these sessions are if you get in touch.

For example, many running clubs do beginner sessions, or they have someone run with you the first time you attend.  This way they can assess your ability and put you with the group that will benefit you best.

We all have to start somewhere, and those of us who are currently active have been in your shoes at one point, so please don't feel nervous about taking that first step!
